Nurdles

Location: Bordeira Beach, Portugal

Do you know what a nurdle is?
I was today years old when I found out.
We were enjoying a beach day and we noticed in the high tide lots of plastic debris and on closer inspections tiny plastic balls. Turns out these are nurdles. They are the pre-production building blocks of all plastic products and it turns out they are spilled at all levels of production, either in transport or ships sinking with nurdles aboard.

Bottom line PLASTIC IS TRASH and it does not “go away”. It is dangerous for human and all living things.

What can you do?

Stop using plastic. Pretty straightforward. Unfortunately, most plastic is single use and doesn’t get recycled. I know it’s a hard fact to swallow.( PBS ARTICLE) Vote with your dollar. Don’t buy plastic. Instead opt for aluminum or glass. Bring your own container to a bulk section and refuse plastic.

PLASTIC MANDATE WARNING COLORADO

Get involved on a local level. We need change at every level. Petro-chemical companies lobby hard to keep making plastic and outlaw bans. We need to keep fighting to have plastic made illegal.

Pick up water ways. All streams lead to the sea. So, you can pick up trash anywhere to keep it from washing into rivers or oceans. Look in your city if there is a trash pick up already happening, if not start one!
The world will only get better if we make it better.
